Denise Lee Hagood

My family moved from Old Saybrook after my sophomore year. I finished High School and college in Maryland. I have been married for 33 years, and have four older children(three grandchildren) and two adopted daughters from China. I teach high school in Leesburg, Va.

Old Saybrook and this class has always held a special place in my life. My family moved to OS when I was entering 8th grade. I had only attended small private schools before so going into a public school was somewhat of a shock. I remember seeing Mr. Pearson throw chalk at Paul King and a few other guys when he was trying to get their attendtion. Mr. Pearson changed my life in several ways. He taught me how to study. He also had the class read current event articles from newspapers/news magazines. One of the articles I remember reading was about the one child policy in China and how baby girls were tossed away for the want of a boy. I was shocked by that information and dreamed for many years of going to China to adopted a daughter. I was able to fullfill this dream in 2003 and 2006. Mr. Pearson played a part in bringing my two young daughters into my life.

I have many great memories of Old Saybrook High School. I have kept in touch with a few of you and have been able to reconnect with some of you through facebook.
